Each of us has the potential to disciple our children 365 days a year, for 18 years. There are no guarantees, everyday is a blessing, but there is the potential. We have an incredible opportunity for 6,570 days to teach them Truth. What if, we committed to going for “All the Marbles,” and did something each day, engaging in intentional discipling moments, living out Deut 6:4-9?
What if, instead of 1 hour on Sunday (which is important too!!!) you walked and talked with them about being disciples?
Today we are still looking at: How do I become a disciple? So, far we have talked about repentance, consequences, and being saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Today, we look at what it means to make Jesus the Lord of your life.
(1) Pray as a family. Make prayer a part of your daily walk together. Not just at meals and bedtime but as you do school lessons, shower, exercise, etc. Teach them we can be in communion with our Creator anytime and anywhere, what an awesome gift!
(2) Read Ephesians 2:8-9 together. What is grace? Can our good deeds save us? NO! We are saved through the grace of God as we place our faith in Jesus—believing He is who He says He is, Lord, God’s Son, King, and Redeemer. That He lived a perfect life, took the punishment for our wrongs on the cross, died, rose AND one day will return!!
(3) It’s simple to know what He did, BUT believing He is Lord of your life (Read Rom 10:9)—which means master, owner, the one in authority—that’s a little more complicated. Read Romans 10:9. Do you believe Jesus is your master, boss, Lord? Do you believe you belong to Him? Read 1 Cor 6:19-20.
(4) Celebrate!! The same Lord who by His grace frees us from sin and death now owns us!!! We belong to Him!!
There is a lot to being a disciple. It is a lifelong journey! Tomorrow and the next day and the next we will keep walking and exploring all that it means to believe in Jesus, to live life as His disciple!
Today we are laying the foundation for investing in our children’s spiritual growth—if your child is 1 day old or 17 years and 11 months—it is never to late to walk and talk truth and invest “All the Marbles!” What will your day of investing look like? One marble at a time...
If you are confused about how to talk to your kids about this or need someone praying for you email me at equippingtomorrow@icloud.com and I’ll be here to walk with you through this unique opportunity we have been given!
