Don’t you just love it when your child has an ”aha moment?” The look of excitement when they can connect the dots! Whether it’s rolling over, taking their first step, saying their first word, reading their first book, doing their first math problem, riding a bike, hitting a ball, solving a complex moth problem, coding their first game, recording their first TikTok, driving a car, getting into college, functioning as an adult, getting married, buying a house, having a child--that look of complete satisfaction!
There are also looks of struggles and the intense frustration, but today focus on those ”aha moments, ” rejoice in them and store them in your memory!
I’m 50 something and for years have been in love with Jesus and the books and letters that have been gathered and included in our bound Bible. But, each time I study these books and letters, I fall more and more in love with God's story. Lately, as I have begun documenting discipleship moments for my three girls to one day share with my grandkids (Lord willing), I have had so many of my own ”aha moments” that it gets me SO EXCITED!! I want to encourage you as a fellow believer in Jesus, saved by grace, to enjoy the journey, and use “all the marbles” to equip your children for tomorrow, in light of eternity!
If you are interested in a simple “journey guide” to use in discipling your children, sign up for “All the Marbles” daily email at the top of this blog post, and it will come straight to your inbox. Discipling is a journey, I encourage you to start with Day 1 of the Blog, but more importantly, I encourage you to start!
Today’s Disciple Moment
(1) Review: Continue to review Questions 1, 2, and 3 from day 37 until your child understands how the books and letters came to be a part of their Bible. (Remeber: we are saved by grace through faith, in Jesus alone--not the Bible . BUT, God’s overall redemptive story has been given to us in the books and letters that we're bounded together and mass reproduced as ”the Bible” in the 1400s after centuries of being copied by hand!)
(2) As a family, we have been looking at Genesis 1-11 for a couple of days now. Genesis is a book included in the TaNak, which is also called the Hebrew Bible (or in our Protestant Bible the Old Testament) What part of the TaNak is Genesis in? (the Torah--the Law--the first 5 books of the Old Testament)
(3) Who wrote the Torah? (Moses, except for the last few paragraphs when he died)
(4) Who was Moses writing it for? (The Israelites as they entered the Promised Land, and for us to know Gods story, starting with creation.)
(5) Was the goal of Moses' writings to explain the science behind creation? (No, it was to explain about a loving, creative, powerful God who turned chaos into creation. And, how He created humankind to be co-rulers with Him, cultivating His creation.)
(6) Read Genesis 1 and 2 as if it were freshly penned today, not to know the seven days of creation in order but to draw closer to the Creator of the universe and His ”good creation”--including you, which is ”very good!”
Tomorrow we will look at what happened in Genesis 3 and how God's redemptive plan was set in motion from the very beginning.
Even if you don’t use anything written here, use your Bible and disciple your children!!! It is a great honor and our responsibility as parents!
I am praying for you and your family, and this journey together!
