This intentional discipling of our children is quite a commitment! It’s Day 30! Remember this is a journey, you don’t have to use this guide at all, my prayer is that you develop a passion of sharing with your children what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. It’s all about transformation, putting off the old self, and turning toward Him!
It’s about faith, not knowledge. It’s about God's grace, not about “me.” We have been looking at the Bible and how God has revealed himself through Scriptures. He has laid out His plan of redemption from creation to the very end of the world.
Before you dive in with your kids today, pray for faith and guidance!
(1) Open up your Bible to the table of contents. Our Bibles have an Old and a New Testament. Discuss what the word Testament means. Testament means covenant between God and the human race. Discuss what a covenant means. A binding agreement, a promise.
(2) What is in the Old Testament? The Old Testament consists of the books that were the Hebrew (Jewish) Scriptures. They were originally written on 3 scrolls and called the TaNak. They tell God’s story of creation and the history of Abraham and the nation of Israel. They also have prophecy of a coming Messiah from the line of Abraham and David (will learn about these guys another day.)
(3) What is in the New Testament? The New Testament contains 4 eyewitness accounts of the life of Jesus, the start of His Church, and letters/sermons to churches and people about what Jesus taught.
Remember, the whole storyline of the Bible is God’s redemptive plan (how He is going to save us), starting with His creation of us and ending with His return for us!
If you are interested in a simple “journey guide” to discipling your children, sign up for this daily “All the Marbles” email, and it will come straight to your inbox. Discipling is a journey, so don’t forget to start with Day 1. Even if you don’t use anything written here, use your Bible, and disciple your children!!! It is a great honor and our responsibility as parents!
I am praying for you and your family and this journey together!
