All the Marbles Day 29

I was given my first Bible in first grade; I don’t remember a thing about the ceremony or what was taught. But, I do remember key people who invested in my discipleship journey throughout my grade school years. I still talk about Mrs. Bea and the amazing things she taught me, even when I wasn’t listening! You see, she loved Jesus and me, and was willing to invest time and energy in the discipleship process for me and lots of other children!

Love your kids well, and let discipling be a part of your everyday routines! Invest “All the Marbles” well each day, with love and bite-size nuggets of truth!

Before you dive in with your kids today, pray for faith and guidance!

(1) Discuss where each of you got your first Bible. If your children use a picture storybook Bible explain to them that it is written at their level to help them see and read on their own. But, it is condensed, and the pictures are someone’s interpretation of what was happening.

(2) Was the Bible always bound like ours? Discuss how the original books were written on scrolls, because there were no bound books yet. The Bible we have wasn’t put together in one book (a library of individual scrolls) bound and printed the way we have it until 1611.

We will talk about when the individual scrolls/books/letters were penned, assembled into one library (the Bible,) the process of deciding what was “in” the library and “not in” the library (the Bible) and the first time all 66 books were combined into one book and language (Latin) another day.

(3) Discuss the overall theme of the Bible. The whole storyline of the Bible is God’s redemptive plan (how He is going to save us), starting with His creation of us and ending with His return for us!

(4) Our Bible has two parts. Do you know what we call them? The “Old Testament” and the “New Testament.”

Join us tomorrow as we talk more about the word Testament! And why we have old and new stuff in “the Bible.”

If you are interested in a simple “journey guide” to discipling your children, sign up for this daily “All the Marbles” email, and it will come straight to your inbox. Discipling is a journey, so don’t forget to start with Day 1. Even if you don’t use anything written here, use your Bible, and disciple your children!!! It is a great honor and our responsibility as parents!

I am praying for you and your family and this journey together!

Recommendation: The Bible Project has some awesome 7-8 minute videos FREE that talk about the Bible, I recommend you watch them and discuss with your children—if you don’t agree with them, discuss why there is no better way to learn than talking about the “whys.”
