Enjoy today’s journey! Wrestle with the truth! Start the discussions NOW as the foundation is being laid! What an opportunity you have been given, don’t let a day pass without investing in the discipleship of your children!

Invest “All the Marbles!”

Yesterday we talked about God’s “general revelation” that is accessible to all people at all times. Today, let’s look at God’s “special revelation,” revelation given to specific people at specific times.

Remember, discipling is about walking and talking as you teach. It’s not lecturing. Sometimes we need to allow our kids to guide our discussions through their questions. Sometimes we need to adjust the depth and breadth of our discussions, but we always need to lead them to the truth. If you ignore the hard questions now, they will too as they get older. It’s ok to admit that we will never understand it all!! If we could grasp all there is know about God—we would be God. It’s ok to wrestle with the tension; it’s ok to admit somethings are a mystery (not to be solved but because God is God and we can never fully understand) and that our knowledge won’t get us all the answers, but we can rely on the Spirit to guide us (John 14:26 and 16:13!) and our faith (more on understanding and faith tomorrow!)

(1) Review what we mean by God’s “general revelation.”

(2) Discuss other ways God has shown himself to people throughout history: angels, miracles, divine manifestations, words of His prophets and mainly His written Word, the Scriptures (what we call “the Bible”)—these special acts, for a particular people at a particular time, are called “special revelation.”

(3) Who is the author of the Scriptures ”The Bible?” Explain how God is the divine author, and God used people to write His words. So, the Bible’s source is both human and divine. Read Exodus 24:3, Jeremiah 30:2, 2 Peter 1:20-21.

(4) Read what Paul says about the Bible in his second letter to Timothy (2 Timothy 3:16.) Since God “breathed the Scripture” we say that He “inspired” them, and if God only speaks the truth, and He breathed the Scripture, then we also believe it is “inerrant” (cannot speak falsely.)

Tomorrow we will breakdown specific verses in Scripture that support inerrancy inferred from inspiration. Remember, in your journey you will need to come back to this truth as your children wrestle with these concepts, more about this tomorrow too!

I am praying for you and your family, and this journey together!
