All the Marbles Day 15

Today parents disciple your children through just being present. Not a teacher, enforcer, protector, etc. but as a brother/sister created in God's image.

Today’s questions are just for parents to chew on as you begin this lifelong journey. We discussed “the why” behind discipling as a family yesterday. Today you need to look at your heart as it relates to discipling your children.

(1) Why do you want to disciple your children? Are your motives right? Remember God cares more about our hearts than our outward religious activities.

(2) If you are reluctant, remember God wants you to minister in joy, not an obligation. Read 2 Cor 9:7. He also wants us to lead willingly and eagerly. Read 1 Peter 5:2.

(3) If you are eager, remember to be cautious. The Bible takes this role seriously. Read James 3:1-12.

(4) Always remember our discipling of our children is an overflow of our love for them. “It is not about what you know—or what you think you know—it is about love.”*

(5) Discipling is also about teaching by example. Read James 1:22-25. Remember, perfection isn’t possible. Read Phil 1:6 and 3:12-14. BUT, you do need to count the cost and allow God's truth to change your life. Read Luke 14:25-33. Just as your children are being transformed, so are you!

I am praying for you and your family, and this journey together!

If you are confused about how to talk to your kids about this or need someone praying for you, email me at equippingtomorrow@icloud.com, and I’ll be here to walk with you through this unique opportunity we have been given.

* From the book ”Multiply” by Chan and Platt. I have used their framework for the discipleship process revised to be family-focused, throughout these first 14 days.
