Have you found that starting a project is the hardest part? I get consumed with gathering the supplies, doing research, being overwhelmed with the duration of the task, picking the “perfect” starting point, or the thought “once I get started I can’t quit, and it could take more than 40 minutes (my top attention span).”
If you are a follower of Jesus, let me encourage you to start discipling your children today! Intentionally walking and talking with them about what being a disciple is all about through your actions AND words. You can do it! The Spirit equips you, and God has given you His Story to share so that your kids will know who God is and His plan to redeem His people! Count the cost of NOT starting, is it worth it? NO!
Are you confident in your faith (self centered)? Or are you confident in the source of your faith (God centered)? You cannot disciple alone, but with Him and fellow believers (the Church), you got this!! Start today!!
Invest “all the marbles” in that child who now is at home 24/7 with you! Pray! Believe! START!!
Summary of where we are (go to Equipping Tommorows website link and signup for our daily emails): Days 1-9 walkthrough what it means to be a disciple of Jesus and Days 10-12 discuss that the Great Commission: baptizing and teaching and today we look at equipping.
(1) Pray together; make this a part of your daily walk, your regular family time as you “go.”
(2) Reread Matthew 28:19 (always discuss with your kids where the Bible came from and why you believe it!) and Ephesians 4:11-16. Talk about whose job it is to make disciples. Disciple-making is every believer's “job!” (Not just pastors.) The Pastors equip and every member of the Church ministers!
(3) Remind your children that God made them the way they are, He will provide them and you with what is needed to be a disciple-maker, only God can change peoples hearts and make them followers—we just have to be obedient in making an effort to teach them, even though we are still learning!
(4) What excuses do we make that keeps us from discipling others? Parents be vulnerable here—what excuses do you make for not discipling your kids? They are too young, they won’t grasp it, the children’s pastor knows better how to speak to them, I may screw it up, I feel more comfortable sharing with adults, they can just watch what I do and catch “it,” STOP making excuses and start living out the Great Commission in your own home!!
If you are confused about how to talk to your kids about this or need someone praying for you, email me at equippingtomorrow@icloud.com, and I’ll be here to walk with you through this unique opportunity we have been given.
